Google Expands Scope for Crypto Adverts

In March 2018, Google banned Cryptocurrency advertisements from the search engine.

This decision did not last long and was revoked in September 2018.

Now Google is expanding its scope and making it easier for certain cryptocurrency related products.

On the 3rd of June 2021 Google released this statement:

Beginning August 3rd, advertisers offering Cryptocurrency Exchanges and Wallets targeting the United States may advertise those products and services when they meet the following requirements and are certified by Google.

Providers are required to be registered with FinCen as a Money Services Business and with at least one state as a money transmitter or be a federal or state chartered bank entity.

Crucially Google announced that it will not allow advertisements regarding ICO pre-sales or public offerings, cryptocurrency loans, initial DEX offerings, token liquidity pools or celebrity cryptocurrency endorsements.

We assume that this is to prevent scams taking over Google’s adverts but could it be to better position Theta Labs or perhaps Google’s own cryptocurrency in the future.
