MotivateU was founded on August 17, 2020, by Jennifer Strout. By bridging the gap between traditional gyms and data-driven AI fitness, it can benefit gym owners, fitness instructors, and members alike.
They utilise AI to supplement human fitness coaches rather than replace them since they feel it is time to reintroduce the community back into community-based exercise.
What is the story behind MotivateU?
It all started when Jennifer was four years old.
Her grandfather gave her a grand surprise – the first computer of her life. At 5 years of age, she started learning mathematics using the computer; at the age of 10, she wrote her first screenplay, first webpage at 12, and created a novel programming at 20 years of age and never looked back since then.
She also filed her invention patent during the summer of 2020.
From working as a counsellor in the mental health sector for over a decade to getting hands-on experience as a personal trainer in the fitness business, she understood that how human condition, mental health and physical health are intricately linked.
Despite her best attempts, she was unable to locate a local gym that met the demands of both herself and her children after the birth of her second son.
While she appreciated the simplicity and adaptability of at-home alternatives, they lacked either human connection, data or both.
Why should I have to pick between incomplete, insufficient answers?Jennifer Strout – Founder MotivateU
From the trainer’s perspective, she felt that the industry lacked any competitive technology.
How could one reasonably live-stream a class while still providing feedback to multiple users at once?
She could not even effectively focus on numerous people speaking during a video conference, and at least that technology highlighted who was speaking at the time, whereas fitness instructors did not even have any way to know who to focus on when providing virtual solutions.
Where is MotivateU now?
MotivateU’s diverse management team has over 120 years of combined industry and technology experience, including 7 patents, and 3 successful exits (1 exit @$400MM ARR).
MotivateU is a member of Troutman Pepper SEED Program and their NSF SBIR Grant Pitch Proposal was accepted.
MotivateU is currently in the running for Pepperdine’s 2021 Most Fundable Companies competition and has thus far made it to the semi-finals. In the fall of 2021, MotivateU will be featured on The Advancements Series hosted by Ted Danson, which airs on CNBC.
What problem does MotivateU try to solve?
With 9 out of 10 Americans expecting to continue working out at home, traditional fitness is falling behind with pen and paper or low-tech band-aids. Simply put, fitness professionals lack the tools to be competitive against direct-to-consumer A.I. Fitness.
Humans, on the other hand, generally crave social interaction with other humans; in fact, it’s the best predictor of lifespan.
The data collected by MotivateU further elevates the value of community, with 91% of trainers saying they enjoy their job due to community and connection with others.
How will MotivateU improve the lives of its customers daily?
MotivateU is a Delaware C-Corp that provides Enterprise SaaS that uses artificial intelligence to deliver patent-pending synchronisation software and data-driven dashboards from any mobile device.
Imagine a a software version of Mirror that directly connects consumers to human fitness professionals.
Motivates’a proprietary motion tracking software solution offers consumers the flexibility of being able to work out both in and out of the gym, while still tracking their performance, with nothing more than their computer or mobile device.
Their solution is sold to fitness businesses, providing fitness professionals the ability to compete against AI fitness by offering the same level of data analytics that AI fitness consumers demand, along with true community engagement and motivation that comes from human connection.
Where does MotivateU see itself in the next 5 years?
The long-term goal for the company is to IPO within the 5-7 year mark; to which they are already making great strides. MotivateU is currently in the process of a raise; with over $50,000 raised at the time of writing.
Both MotivateU and the founder Jennifer Strout are spoken of incredibly highly.
Dave Anderson, the lead investor, describes Strout as
One of those unique people with a diverse educational background, tenacity, and drive that I found in some of the best founders.
What impressed me the most is that she has a steadfast focus despite having a technology that could solve problems in diverse industries…A founder rarely realizes they need to be somewhat myopic early on.
For me, a great company isn’t just about the idea, but about the people behind it. It’s often said you invest in people, not ideas…I have no doubt Jennifer is going to drive that success.
Further investors state that
Jennifer has great ideas, but what is so special about her is that she follows through. She is also always willing to learn and teach, which is very important as a founder.
This is a fantastic product/service and is a no brainer for anyone to invest in. Sign me up!

For MotivateU the vision is simple; instead of working out in front of a mirror, fitness consumers may work out in front of a live fitness instructor – the same teacher you have at your local club – while still obtaining the data-driven analytics that AI fitness is known for.
